This page is normally about living a healthy lifestyle and taking care of yourself but we deviated a bit for Father's Day. Calgary has had an explosion of microbreweries in the last few years and we checked out a few yesterday because we were near Inglewood. We visited High Line Brewing and Cold Garden Beverage Company. Both are kid friendly, bright and great places to socialize. There were board games and foosball available. Beer can be good for your bones and has vitamin b. No benefit to the teeth but we had fun. Next stop will have to be Dandy because we know one of the owners. Anyone else have a recommendation for the Calgary area?
This morning, CBC reported new stats on cancer. 1 out of 2 Canadians will have some form of cancer in their lifetime and 1 out of 4 will not survive. Unfortunately, 5 year survival rates for oral cancer are still low because it is often detected at a late stage. HPV (human papilloma virus) is now one of the biggest risk factors in oral cancer, thanks to the decline in smoking habits. As part of our new patient exam, we include a screening of all the soft tissues, looking for any lumps/bumps that shouldn't be there. A thorough and regular dental cleaning is also important in decreasing oral inflammation, helping to lower your risk for cancer.
Unlike a lot of other offices in Airdrie, our entire team is from the local area! We love Airdrie and think it's truly one of the best places to live. I had a personal reminder a couple of this a couple of days ago. A kind stranger offered to check my oil for me as I was filling up with gas. He was doing his own and decided he would help out his neighbor as well. I've also had an experience of the person ahead of me in the drive through at Starbucks paying for my coffee. Anyone else have a story about the kindness of strangers in Airdrie?
Every year, I'm struggling to come up with something fun for Father's Day. Today I heard about a great event going on at the Hangar Museum in NE Calgary. If the man in your life is an airplane/car/motorcycle enthusiast, this is the event for you!
